Abstract

Agritourism in recent decades has gained importance within the multifunctionality of agriculture, becoming an element of diversification that favors the socioeconomics of small producers. In Mexico, agritourism still has an incipient development, characterized by insufficient support from the national tourism public policy. Added to this, formal research on the subject is scarce. To learn about the agritourism status in Mexico and its research, a systematic review has been carried out by searching for documents in EBSCO, Google Scholar, Scopus and Web of Science corresponding to the period 2010–2020; the results had been grouped according to themes. Agritourism research in Mexico has focused on few thematic axes, so there is a need to emphasize other themes such as the role of minorities in agritourism, public policies, competitiveness, the formation of networks, their evolution at the national level and social transformation of territory through this tourist practice.
