Abstract

High malnutrition remains an alarming complex problem affecting infants, children, men and women in India. Although, the situation of undernutrition is getting better, the agenda remains uncompleted. State level trend shows that the variation in rates of stunting are still as pronounced as they were a decade ago and states based on agriculture often face the burden of food insecurity and malnutrition in India. Here, existence of malnutrition raises doubt on the linkage between agriculture and nutrition in India, especially in the post liberalisation era. In this backdrop, this chapter tries to identify the linkages between agriculture, nutrition and other variables in India. The findings of this study are based on correlation and multiple regression analysis. Findings indicate that agriculture diversification, households’ amenities and childcare practices have a significant impact on nutrition in India and emphasis should be given on increasing farmers’ income to reduce the level of malnutrition.
