Abstract

Charles J. Bicak Charles J. Bicak is assistant professor of Biology at California State College, Bakersfield, 93311-1099. Having received a B.S. from Kearney State College, Nebraska, Bicak taught at the secondary level. He earned an M.S. degree from the Univ. of British Columbia and a Ph.D. from Colorado State Univ. His areas of specialty are ecology and plant science and he has particular interest in the effects of environmental stress on plants. Specific topics of research for Bicak have included composition of native plant communities and yield of crops subjected to air pollution stress. He is director of the Agri-Biology program at California State College which emphasizes breadth in biological experience for students. Bicak also teaches courses which focus on the development of scientific literacy in students and relies on common themes in ecology and agriculture to clarify the similarity among living systems.
