Abstract

The dry areas worldwide are experiencing severe and growing water scarcity. Its impact on food security and the environment, could potentially lead to socio-political instability and conflicts in many countries. Agriculture, the largest consumer of water, receives a progressively smaller proportion of total water resources – while food demand continues to rise. It is therefore strategic for countries with scarce water resources to produce more food with less water. DOI:10.15528/2176-4158/rcpa.v15n1p22-30
