Abstract

Adequate and reliable agricultural statistics are very important for Turkey. The country's economic development depends primarily on government controlled five-year plans. It is difficult to collect data in rural areas where about three million farm families live, mostly with small land holdings or without land. But in today's Turkey, the statistical administration is well organized and has been producing a lot of data. However, many deficiencies remain and there is still need for improvements in the way in which agricultural data are collected and published.
