Abstract

AbstractThis chapter provides an overview of the agricultural sector in the Serbian economy, covering land resources, farm structure, production, prices and income. The most important indicators of the agricultural sector in Serbia are compared with other Western Balkan countries (including Romania and Bulgaria) and EU. The second section outlines the role of agriculture in the general economy, showing its shares in GDP, employment and foreign trade. Sections 3, 4 and 5 assess the land resources, farm structure and land ownership. Section 6 covers the size of agricultural production, its diversity and economic value, with details about most important sub-sectors. Section 7 looks at output price indices for agriculture, followed by trends in real prices for specific agricultural products. Section 8 concludes this chapter with a brief evaluation of the income situation in Serbian agricultural sector.
