Abstract

The word disruptive technology is a buzz word in the modern world that rightly points to the advancement in digital information, digital innovation and digital transformation creating a new market for digital technology. Artificial Intelligence, Automation, Big data analytics, Blockchain technology, Wireless sensor networks, Robotics, IoT, etc. are some of the most trending technologies revolutionizing the global world. IoT is a globally acclaimed technology which has proved its worth in almost all leading sectors of the competitive world. Whether it is business, education, industry, health or agriculture sector IoT has made a remarkable impact on all. Most of the developed countries have invested in agricultural IoT which has proved to be a boon to the agricultural sector. This book chapter provides a comparative case study of agricultural IoT in India and the USA. The main aim of this chapter is to provide the details related to the impact of agricultural IoT on the socio-economic life of the farmers, its impact on the growth of the agriculture sector and, in turn, the growth of the country. The current chapter also depicts various statistical and technical information related to IoT in agriculture. It not only explains the current agricultural practices carried out in India, its impact on individual’s and nation’s GDP growth but also emphasizes on the role of IoT, its applications, its need and its benefits w.r.t the Indian agriculture sector.
