Abstract

AbstractThis chapter shows that the CGIAR's receptivity to sustain a critical mass of social science research capacity and programmes has been poor. Sections discuss: the CGIAR's past research styles and approaches; recent social science research in the CGIAR; the Technology Advisory Committee's and external review panels' views about social science research in the CGIAR; the 2000 CGIAR strategy and social research; and the outcomes of the CGIAR Social Research Conference (September 2002).
