Abstract

Chapter 4 discussed states that opted for Kaldorian strategies in response to Britain’s industrial revolution. What about those areas that opted for or were forced into a Ricardian strategy? The industrial revolution’s voracious appetite for agricultural goods created a system of agricultural production rings, like those described in Chapter 2, around industrializing northwestern Europe. The expansion of those Thünen rings created two distinct dynamics.
