Abstract

This paper has an objective for analysis of charcoal pellet, produced from charcoal wastes and verifies the influence of certain variables on reduction and oxidation. For evaluation such performance, a combustion index was defined based on combustion time, temperature and mass of material. For characterization of pellets, it was determined the moisture, volatiles materials, ash and fixed carbon, so as calorific power, density, porosity, and compression strength as well. Finally, the pellet produced from the waste was analyzed under the point of view of energy equivalence, and possibility for using the produced material for charging into the blast furnace throat. This way, a new form for using this waste has been proposed with a certain magnitude of success, not only for substitute fuel in vapor generator, but including the charging of that pellet jointly with the lump iron ore.
