Abstract

This paper examines certain central aspects of the understanding of aging in the Jewish and Christian theological traditions with special reference to the implications of that understanding for religious education. Three common historic themes found in those traditions are briefly discussed: (1) the blessing of age (2) aging and the justice of God, and (3) the religio‐moral responsibilities of older adults. Historic formulations of these themes are brought into conversation with the contemporary realities of aging and with the requirements of religious education.
