Aging Cell Prize for Best Paper 2012

Abstract

The Editors of Aging Cell wish to congratulate the authors of our Annual ‘Best Paper’ Competition. This is the fifth year in which we have asked the members of our Editorial Board to nominate papers published in the previous year (Volume 11) that they consider have contributed to the advance of our understanding of a fundamental process in biology of aging, or that have resolved controversial aspects of aging research. The Editors-in-Chief then cast their ballots to select the winner and two runners-up out of the 15 papers nominated by the members of the Editorial Board. The winning paper of our fifth Annual Best Paper Competition is: ‘The Deviation of innate circadian period from 24 h reduces longevity in mice’ from Sergiy Libert et al. Michael S. Bonkowski, Kelli Pointer, Scott D. Pletcher, and Leonard Guarente. This work appeared as Aging Cell 11.5: 794–800 in 2012. Dr. Libert et al. will each receive 1 year's electronic subscription to Aging Cell. The authors will also receive a Prize Certificate from our sponsors, the Anatomical Society. In addition to this, they will receive ONE SUM of £1000 (the authors will decide how to distribute the sum among themselves) plus up to £1000 travel expenses for the first author or one of the coauthors to present the paper at the Anatomical Society's Winter Meeting at Newcastle University, December 16th–18th, 2013 (http://www.anatsoc.org.uk/Meetings/Meetings/tabid/125/Filter/0%20ASM/view/Conference/Default.aspx?MeetingNo=AS12/13. Two other papers nominated by our Editorial Board came very close to winning the Best Paper Competition. These were the work of Louise T. Jensen et al. Tine H. Møller, Simon A. Larsen, Helle Jakobsen, and Anders Olsen ‘A new role for laminins as modulators of protein toxicity in Caenorhabditis elegans’, which appeared in Aging Cell 11.1: 82–92 (you can read this for free online from Wiley Blackwell at http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1474-9726.2011.00767.x/full, and the work of Yuli Volovik et al. Moria Maman, Tatyana Dubnikov, Michal Bejerano-Sagie, Derek Joyce, Erik A Kapernick, Ehud Cohen, and Andrew Dillin, entitled ‘Temporal requirements of heat shock factor-1 for longevity assurance’, which appeared in Aging Cell 11.3: 491–499 (you can read this for free online from Wiley Blackwell at http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1474-9726.2012.00811.x/full. The authors of both papers will receive 1 year's electronic subscription to Aging Cell. The authors will also receive a Prize Certificate from our sponsors, the Anatomical Society.
