Abstract

The American Geological Institute (AGI), in cooperation with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), invites postdoctoral scientists or engineers and professionals in the geological field to apply for the recently established AGI Congressional Science and Engineering Fellowship. AGI thus joins the AGU and approximately 20 other professional scientific and engineering societies who sponsor Congressional Science and Engineering Fellows. AAAS coordinates the entire program, arranges the orientation and yearlong seminar programs, and assists in the selection process.By working for 1 year, beginning September 1, 1980, as a special legislative assistant on the staff of a member of Congress or congressional committee, fellows have an opportunity to contribute to the public policymaking process within Congress. The program includes an orientation on congressional and executive branch operations and a year‐long seminar program on issues involving science and public policy.
