Abstract

Through the investigation of a number of metadata standards for scientific data-sets, and the catalogues and websites of some scientific data repositories and portals, this paper identified the mechanisms employed for the aggregate control of scientific data. It also compared with the common approaches of aggregation control used by traditional archival institutions. Finally, it concluded that the scientific data management community and traditional archival institutions use largely the same approaches of aggregated control to facilitate resources’ access and discovery.
