Abstract

Coal/oil agglomerates have been prepared from Alberta subbituminous coal and Alberta heavy oils. Pulverized coal, partially dried agglomerates and steam-stripped agglomerates showed similar process performance when subjected to coprocessing with a supported catalyst. The properties of the process derived non-distillable oils were similar irrespective of the feed pretreatment procedure. Clay and silica mineral matter in the coal had no observable catalytic effect.
