Abstract

A formal model of agent-based user knowledge management in intelligent tutoring systems is presented in this paper. It consists of an interaction agent and a coginitive agent. The interaction agent not only interacts with new users and gets their personal information for identification, but records interaction information of a user with intelligent tutoring systems. The cognitive agent is responsible for recording cognitive information concerning a user which is vital for the system's user-adapted operation. These two kinds of agents work together to construct user knowledge bases. After given the formalisms of the above two kinds of agents, the formal model of agent-based user knowledge management is presented, and the building and updating of user knowledge bases is discussed in detail to show that the model is practicable.
