Abstract
Thanks toa burdensome lifelong treatment, it is now possible to lead an almost 'normal' life while being HIV-positive. The status of people living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is rarely questioned. The image of the 'dying contagious patient' has been replaced by that of the 'classic chronically ill patient'. However, their HIV-positive status still leads to discrimination. A sociological study based on the accounts of 30 HIV-positive women in French-speaking Switzerland reveals how they feel faced with the prospect ofageing with HIV.
