Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between shallow anterior chamber after composited trabeculectomy and the age, and to observe its treatment efficacy. Methods The data of 132 eyes of 105 cases with glaucoma who received composited trabeculectomy were retrospectively studied. The incidence rates of shallow anterior chamber after operation in patients of different age groups were analyzed and the treatment efficacy was observed. Results In group A (43-65 years old group), of 63 eyes shallow anterior chamber happened in 8 eyes within 1 week after operation (12.7%), among them 7 eyes received medicine conservative treatment and the anterior chamber returned to normal. The time of anterior chamber recovery was 1-4 days. Postoperative intraocular pressure was 10.5-22.7 mmHg at 1 month after operation with an average of (17.1±2.6) mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa). The anterior chamber in 1 eye returned to normal after surgical treatment and the postoperative intraocular pressure was 31 mmHg. In group B, of 69 eyes 21 eyes appeared different degrees of shallow anterior chamber within 1 weeks (30.4%) and received conservative treatment, the anterior chamber of 17 eyes were returned to normal after conservative treatment. At 1 month after operation, the intraocular pressure was 9.3-21.5 mmHg with an average of (15.2±3.5) mmHg. The anterior chamber of 3 eyes returned to normal after surgical treatment and at 1 month after operation the intraocular pressure was 21, 25 and 35 mmHg respectively. Ciliary block glaucoma was diagnosed in 1 eye, and after lens extraction and anterior vitrectomy the intraocular pressure was 18 mmHg at 1 month after operation. Conclusion The elderly persons are more susceptible to suffer the postoperative shallow anterior chamber and recovery of anterior chamber needs long time.
