Abstract

We compared the functional parameters in men at the age of 20–69 years in a single-step cross-sectional study in order to find evidence of increased functional parameters in residents of the Polar region. In men of this age range residing in the Polar region, a tendency toward a steady decline in a number of parameters was found: height, strength, muscle working capacity, balancing of the body when standing on one leg, vital capacity of the lungs, resistance to hypoxemia, cardiac output, level of physical strength, adrenocorticotropic hormone and testosterone levels, an increase in the body mass index, index of coordination (motor coordination impairment), visual motor response time, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, index of functional changes, and insulin. Such a functional decline was more prominent in men at the age of 50 years and older.
