Abstract
From the standpoint of Marxist methodology the development of children is a continuous process that is determined by internal and external factors, which are characterized by the "origination and formation of new [characteristics] that did not exist in the earlier stages" (L. S. Vygotskii, "The Problem of Age Periods in Child Development (Scientific Archives)" [Problema vozrastnoi periodizatsii detskogo razvitiia (nauchnyi arkhiv)], Voprosy psikhologii, No. 2, p. 117).
