Abstract

For age determination of sediments up to 150 y 210Pb is suitable on grounds of its half-life of 22.3 y. By a nitric acid disintegration lead is extracted out of the sediment and subsequently precipatated electrolytically on Pt-electrodes. The activity of the sample resp. 210Pb is measured via the alpha-activity of its granddaughter 210Po. As detector a plastic sheet (cellulose nitrate, CA 80-15, made by Kodak) is used. Investigated was a sediment core from the Kieler Bucht, western Baltic Sea. The results make it appear possible, that the sediment is mixed up by shellfish (cyprina islandica).
