Abstract

A theoretical model is presented to examine the effect of dispersion of a population on its age distribution. The dynamics of a one dimensional dispersive population on a linear habitat is investigated using Fourier transforms. It is found that if the individuals prefer to inhabit locations of lower population density, the age distribution becomes uniform over the entire habitat even though the population density is not necessarily uniform over the habitat.
