Abstract

Objectives: Elevated glucagon levels contribute to hyperglycaemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Insulin is a strong inhibitor of glucagon release from pancreatic alpha-cells. Obesity causes insulin resistance of liver and skeletal muscle. However, it is not known if obesity causes insulin resistance in alpha-cells. Therefore, we investigated insulin responsiveness of alpha-cells in a mouse model of obesity. In addition, we tested if this depends on age.
