Abstract

Abstract Age and growth data are presented on 341 Alaskan broad whitefish, Coregonus nasus, from the Porcupine River, Minto Flats, Holitna River, Imuruk Basin, and the Sagavanirktok River. Fish examined were 23–64 cm fork length and ranged in age from III to XIII. Broad whitefish from the Porcupine and Holitna rivers and Minto Flats were approximately 12 cm longer by age VII than Imuruk Basin and Sagavanirktok River fish. Length of growing season is proposed as the main reason for differences in growth of various populations. Males reached sexual maturity between ages V and IX and females between ages V to X.
