Essay Abstract “Against the Odds They did Preach, Part II” is a continuation from our April, 2021, issue. In this second part, Thompson continues the story of the first four women ordained in the Methodist tradition, shifting her focus to Maggie Ritchie Elliott (ordained in Missouri in 1876), Emma J. Plummer Baldwin (ordained in Missouri in 1878), and Mary C. Hobson Johnson (ordained in Kansas in 1879).
