Abstract
First of all, I want to thank Peter Duffy for inviting me to provide a final comment on the manuscripts in this volume on Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) and youth. As Peter and I discussed my contribution, we thought it would be helpful to give the reader another “take” on TO from someone outside the theatre community. As a philosopher of education, my task is to investigate diverse systems of thought to aid the contributors and readers alike in our efforts to reconceptualize what we mean by education and, more specifically—as Paulo Freire would affirm—to humanize schooling for children in particular. In this afterword, I do not intend to review the chapters but rather to address the text from my current research interest: psychoanalytic theory and its relevance for TO.KeywordsTherapeutic SettingTheatre CommunityAssistant PrincipalPsychoanalytic ThinkingTherapeutic DiscourseThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
