Abstract

The 2008 centenary of rugby league football in Australia provides opportunities for clubs, governing bodies and cultural institutions to celebrate the sport's heritage. This article examines the major collectors of primary sources relating to rugby league in Australia, including cultural institutions, rugby league organisations and private collectors. It discusses the major categories of primary sources, including printed, manuscript and pictorial material, as well as artefacts. It also suggests sources for exploring beyond the traditional 'who beat whom' narrative that dominates many club histories.
