Abstract

A new genus Afrolarinus gen. n. is described from tropical Africa with distinctive characters a thick longitudinal keel on pronotum, roughly sculptured integument, triangularly developed postocular lobes and prolonged cylindrical stylus base. Its distribution is confined with Afrotropical Region. Lectotypes are designated for Larinus moestus Chevrolat, 1882, Larinus obesus Petri, 1914, Larinus lindblomi Aurivillius, 1926 and Larinus flavomaculatus Hustache, 1925. New synonyms and new combinations are proposed for Afrolarinus moestus (Chevrolat, 1882) comb. n. [= Larinus abyssinicus Aurivillius, 1912 syn. n., Larinus obesus Petri, 1914 syn. n. = Larinus lindblomi Aurivillius, 1926 syn. n.], Afrolarinus flavomaculatus (Hustache, 1925) comb. n. Larinus moestus Chevrolat, 1882 is selected as the type species of the new genus. In total, two species are recognized as valid for the new genus Afrolarinus. Species are redescribed, illustrated and a key provided. (© 2013 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
