Abstract

This article argues that African-American women are not a homogeneous group. An attempt to categorize them will therefore establish that there are differences within the group as well as between African-Americans women and other groups of women. African-American women continue to be victims of racial oppression, sex discrimination and class stratification. Historical and contemporary forces which shape the lives of African-American women will be identified.
