Abstract
Aforism' is a term of Greek origin and it is best translated into Serbian as 'definition'. The term became known thanks to the Greek physician Hippocrates and his work Aphorisms - a collection of recipes and instructions on the preservation of health and the treatment of diseases. Thereby, for the first time in the history of medicine and literature a medical written form grew into a literary form. The history of the transformation of aphorism from medicine into social sciences and then into satire follows the beginnings of the first aphorisms in the 16th and 17th centuries. Beckon, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and Kafka gave special significance to the development of aphorism. It showed that hypocritical traditions and especially humanistic transmission of traditions of medical aphorism to the social sphere were very encouraging for opening towards satire, therefore medical aphorism evolved into contemporary satirical aphorism. The most common spheres of reality which inspire satire are - society and morality. The theme of aphorism is most often ethical, so satiric aphorism represents a creative core critic of our contemporary life and many of its spheres.
