Abstract

Introduction Episodes of agitation and affective disorders following stroke are important complications which may delay rehabilitation. Case report We report a case of affective disorder and episodes of agitation after a partial stroke of the left media artery with residual aphasia. These episodes were eventually accompanied by loss of conscience and had different causes. After treatment with mirtazapine and valproate symptoms improved significantly. Conclusion Episodes of agitation may be related to different origins. A careful differential diagnosis is necessary.
