Abstract

This paper attempts to relate three of the fundamental aesthetic theories in Chinese culture to traditional musical behaviour in the practice of literati music. These are qiyun, qi cheng zhuan he and yijing. It makes reference to poetry, calligraphy and painting in a multi‐dsiciplinary approach in order to understand Chinese musical behaviour.
