Abstract

Javanese Wayang Kulit Puppetry through centuries has become high values for the Indonesian cultural aspect, normatively this monumental culture is also has become iconic sublime through “pakem”, its means, Wayang Kulit has the uniformity performance, including the storyline and the method of the delivering the story to protect the tradition, as a cultural asset Wayang should have progress in other unlimited creativity, rather than stagnant or involutif. Until now, Wayang Kulit became inspiration and thrills factor of creativity using the technology, such as in game, wayang has become playable game character, including the heroic and the vilain approaches from the original wayang characterization itself. The purpose of this research is to describe the creatives process and technical approach using digital sculpting that focus on shape and texture design of wayang kulit character, especially in “Buto” type of character, which is refers to giant monster based on humanoid wayang type. The methods of this research combine literatures study and experimental 3D CG model character creation. The analysis result is to gain alternative visualization in character design, focus on shape and texture from conceptual to visualization aesthetic that inspired by Wayang Buto type characterization.
