Abstract

The results of measurements of dust and Aitken nuclei concentrations at the Algarve coast of Portugal, compared with similar measurements in western Germany are reported. The highest mass concentrations of dust in Portugal appear in the summer months. Comparison of wind records leads to the conclusion that considerable amounts of dust are carried from the dry and hot areas of northwestern Africa and the central Iberian peninsula.
