Abstract

Based on the compressible Navier-Stokes equations and k-E turbulent model, a two-dimensional and three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model is built and Finite Volume Method (FVM) is used to calculate aerodynamic characteristics of high-speed trains with porous wind fence on Lan-Xin railway. At first, a 2D model was used to optimize the wind fence height. According to the 2D calculation results, the optimal wind fence height is 4m. Then a 3D model was used to calculate the aerodynamics of high-speed trains with wind fence at 0% and 20% porosity respectively. The side force, lift and rolling moment were obtained at different train speeds. All above results can be a reference to the wind fence design.
