Abstract

In this work it has been shown that initial reversible stages of aerobic photoinhibition (PI) [1] which quench the fluorescence [2] do not block primary charge separation in Photosystem II (PS II) reaction centers (RCs). Progress of PI was monitored by time-resolved fluorescence. Photovoltage (PV) technique [3] was applied to observe electron transfer on nanosecond time scale: from primary donor, P680, to primary acceptor, Phe, (primary charge separation resulting in creation of primary pair P680+Phe-), from primary to secondary acceptor, QA, (creation of secondary pair P+QA ) and from primary acceptor back to primary donor (charge recombination).
