Abstract
Moniliformis dubius synthesized glycogen from glucose, fructose, mannose, and maltose. The synthesis of trehalose from these substrates was not demonstrated although this disaccharide was present in considerable amounts. Glycogen and trehalose were the major endogenous carbohydrates. Acids excreted during the aerobic fermentation were identified tentatively as acetic, lactic and formic acids. These were formed in the presence or absence of exogenous carbohydrates. Glucose, fructose, mannose, and maltose increased the rate of lactic acid excretion. Mannose, maltose and possibly fructose stimulated respiration. Glucose and glycerophosphoric acid did not.
