Abstract

Detailed software models, together with careful analysis of hundreds of load case combinations, enabled an international design team to extend the service life of New York City’s Roosevelt Island Tram by at least 30 years. The team’s efforts helped avoid unnecessary structural reinforcements while creating lightweight support elements critical to the new system.
