Abstract

A tissue culture procedure for rapid clonal multiplication of Aechmea fasciata Baker is described. The procedure started with shoot-tips obtained from growing lateral shoots. Multiple-shoot arose from shoot-tip were grown on modified Murashige and Skoog's liquid medium with naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) and 6-benzylamino purine (BA). A low salt concentration and liquid culture improved the survived rate of initial cultures. Subcultured young shoots or leaves produced many adventitious buds from the basal parts. In order to stop the proliferation of adventitious buds and to initiate rooting, several subcultures to hormone-free medium or with the addition of auxin as growth substance was necessary. Plantlet rooting was sucessfully established in pots.
