Adzes from excavations at Sigatoka, Fiji

Abstract

Investigation, which involved two seasons' work on three sites, was financed by a grant from the National Science Foundation of the United States, sponsored by the Bernice P. Bishop Museum of Honolulu. The excavations have been briefly described elsewhere (Birks, 1967a) and relevant radiocarbon dates reported (Birks, 1967a : 20 ; 19676) . The Sigatoka Valley area is the subject of a research programme instituted by the Fiji Museum under the direction of Mr. Bruce Palmer.
