Abstract

National and world events since 1979 have brought the problem of advocacy vs. value free research into sharp focus for those of us involved in contract archeology (often erroneously called "Cultural Resource Management"). It is my opinion that "value free" research is alive and well only in theory, and that archeological and/or anthropological research today reflects only varying degrees of the "advocacy model."
