Abstract

To discuss various advocates and advocacy roles integral to the multidisciplinary oncology lymphedema care team. Review and research articles, and Web sites. The professional and lay awareness of lymphedema, risk profiles, patient education, and treatment have improved significantly over the past two decades, although gaps are still present that require attention. Nurses must be familiar with the common concepts related to lymphedema, risk profiles, recognition of symptoms, and referral options for the treatment of oncology patients with or at risk for lymphedema.
