Abstract

The authors review the adverse neuropsychiatric reactions that have been reported in patients taking cimetidine, a widely prescribed inhibitor of gastric acid secretion. Delirium was the most widely reported effect, occurring in 25 of the 35 cases described in the literature. Other mental changes included depression, anxiety-depressive syndromes, and obtundationcoma. The published case reports are summarized in tabular form.
