Abstract

This paper provides a holistic view of adverse electromagnetic effects on large electric and electromagnetic systems caused by the High Altitude EMP (HEMP) and/or High Power Electromagnetic (HPM) weapons. For illustration we use systems theory to: assess the interaction between the Electric Power Grid and the Public Data Network; and propose a new paradigm for survivability based on random graph theory and percolation theory. Theoretical models and analytical results are rendered.
