Abstract
I was born on November 16, 1926 in Vienna, Austria, where I had my first 5 years of schooling. When I was 11 years old my family moved to Sydney, Australia, where my father had a business appointment as manager of the Australian branch of an Austrian company that marketed fine steels. I went to school in Sydney and then, from 1944 to 1947, to Sydney University where I majored in biochemistry (First Class Honors B.Sc.) and then did an M.Sc. in biochemistry in 1948.
