Abstract

AbstractThe intention of this chapter is to show how adventure tourism is now a thriving industry in South America, using Ecuador as an example. The chapter describes the situation of adventure tourism in Ecuador, explores the four different regions of Ecuador and evaluates the advantages of Ecuador's geography for adventure tourism development. The narrative also elucidates how indigenous peoples are now active members of the industry and the involvement of the government of Ecuador in adventure tourism. Finally, the future of adventure tourism in Ecuador is reviewed.
