Abstract

The purpose of this work is to identify the benefits of high-pressure coolant when milling deep-pocketed thin-walled titanium components and compare this to flood coolant technology. Several components were manufactured using different milling and drilling tools. The tool wear, cutting forces and chip formation were investigated. The manufacturing cycle time reduced by 17–43 % and the estimated component cost reduced by 15–64 % when using high-pressure coolant.
