Abstract

Solutions to a number of important problems in language test develop ment not resolved by classical measurement theory are to be found in latent trait measurement theory. An ESL reading comprehension test is analysed first using classical measurement procedures and then with Rasch Model latent trait procedures. The advantages gained through use of the latter are demonstrated and discussed.
