Abstract

Building on technological progress, travel survey methods have evolved to utilise smartphones for better data collection of individual-level travel data with less environmental impact. MobyApp platform is a tool that can replace paper-based travel demand surveys, advance online surveys, and improve the experience of participants. It is designed to collect detailed multi-day data on travel and activity patterns for use in urban and transport planning, modelling, and analysis. The objective of this paper is three-fold: 1.to present the capabilities of the state-of-the-art MobyApp that advances the travel demand survey methods, 2.to describe how the platform was utilised to host travel demand surveys within the HARMONY project in Turin Urban Area (IT); 3.to elaborate on the quality of the collected data for transport modelling purposes, and the experience of users using this survey tool.
