Abstract

A new journal invites reflection on the nature and purpose for such a publication. This article exegetes the ‘call for papers’ of the Journal of Spiritual Formation & Soul Care in order to cast a vision for the journal. In treating the subject matter of the journal, definitions are proposed of ‘Christian spirituality,’ ‘spiritual formation,’ ‘transformation in Christ,’ and ‘soul care.’ Next, an argument for an explicitly evangelical spirituality is presented. The interdisciplinary methodology of the journal is highlighted as well as the overall aim of the journal. As it turns out fleshing out the nature and purpose of this journal is part and parcel with fleshing out what it means to develop evangelical scholarship on Christian spirituality.
